Project Summary (EN)

The youth exchange “Preserving our Future: From the Roots to the Fruits” will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from the 11th to the 18th of December 2011. There will be participants from SpainLatviaGreece and Armenia.

The main objective of the project is to raise awareness about several types of volunteering, and to create social awareness and motivate young people to become involved in volunteer projects in their local communities.

The project includes workshops and discussion groups about the cultural, social and economic reality of the participating countries. Each group will present their country and association; participants will have to be previously informed about volunteering opportunities in their communities to present them to the rest.

At the event, representatives of local NGOs will explain how to contribute in similar organizations in other countries and give informative talks about European AEGEE projects related to volunteering.

Activities will focus on three types of volunteering:  with people with Down syndrome, with immigrants and with young people who live in shelters. In all of them, the value of non-verbal communication will be shown.

The name of the project, “Preserving our Future: From the Roots to the Fruits”, evokes, on the one hand, the roots, which  are the information and awareness about volunteering, and on the other hand, the fruits, which will be presented in the form of volunteer activities that the participants are expected to carry out once they return to their home countries.
